112 * O Rudy από το Johannesburg διδάσκει Ελληνική Μυθολογία * |
In Greek mythology, Hypnos was the god of sleep. His twin brother was Thanatos (Death) and their mother was the goddess Nyx (Night). Hynos has always been my favourite mythological character and I like the idea of Sleep and Death being related somehow... Rudy Just can't stay away from the mythological themes. An elaboration on the previous Hypnos, but this time I wanted to concentrate on the face only, trying to give him more classical and noble features. Completely ignoring any rules about accurate proportions and shading for fear of overworking it (as I often do) - the drawing came out much 'looser". The idea was to make him more magical, like a fleeting image remembered from a dream. Ετικέτες DrawFellas (Rudy) |

104 * ΘΕΑΤΡΟ IX: BENT του Martin Sherman * |
<the LIDA Project Theatre, DenverDirectors notes Life, they say, runs in cycles. When I first encountered Bent, I was a teenager struggling with being openly gay in a small town in Arkansas - reading this play and knowing there were others like me (who faced bullies far worse than mine) helped me make it through a tough time. The second time I crossed paths with Bent was a during the early days of AIDS. The director, having recently lost a close friend, decided that gays didn't need another martyr and revised the ending of the play to delete the script's final death scene - making it, to my mind, a defeatist ending - and kick-starting my days as an activist. Then, eleven years ago, I was acting in the show when I learned of legislation that was being proposed for that fall's election - Amendment Two. Had I stopped to analyze this before, I might have noticed that the circles that my life and this play were describing were getting smaller and smaller... This time the circle closed in tightly: I cast an actor in the show whose employer would not allow him to perform the role due to concerns about its content. The struggle continues. The cycle begins again. Ετικέτες ΘΕΑΤΡΟ (Stage) |

Mean Tears
<
Certain Young Men In place of gay solidarity, this gripping, enjoyable play offers a vision of humanity where there is an equal place for women, and even for heterosexuality. I saw it as a vindication of tolerance, almost a miniature utopian vision, with homosexuals having lessons to teach, such as the instinctive democracy of those whose sexuality so often transcends barriers of social class. Anyway, most aspects of the sex war are universal... " – From The Wall Street Journal Europe Ετικέτες ΘΕΑΤΡΟ (Stage) |
